Reflective critical thinking: essential competence in the training of the architect

The architect is a critical thinker, whose art is based on reflection. Meanwhile, he knows his past, analyzes it, and gets involved with his reality to question and then transform it. The presented article focuses on the importance of reflective critical thinking in the training of the future architect. Based on hermeneutical processes based on documentary analysis and on the logical historical method, the contributions of guiding frameworks of the current educational policy were prioritized; as well as some bases of a theoretical and epistemological nature, pertinent to the central theme of this proposal. The result of this was to understand the importance of critical-reflective thinking as an essential competence, which allows the future architect to configure himself as a professional capable of facing the situations and problems of the context from a potential of self-regulation and autonomy in decision-making.
