Enfoque y Alcance

Maestro y Sociedad (MyS) es el órgano científico de divulgación de las ciencias pedagógicas en la Universidad de Oriente, es editada por el Departamento de Ediciones UO de la Universidad de Oriente y abarca temas acerca de todas las ramas de las Ciencias de la Educación. Publica números seriados trimestralmente (enero-marzo, abril-junio, julio-septiembre, octubre-diciembre) en publicación continua en español, inglés y portugués. Está inscripta en el Registro Nacional de Publicaciones Seriadas (RNPS) 2079 con el ISSN (electrónico): 1815-4867.

Focus and Scope

Maestro y Sociedad (MyS) is the scientific organ for the dissemination of pedagogical sciences at the Universidad de Oriente, it is edited by the UO Editions Department of the Universidad de Oriente and covers topics about all branches of Education Sciences. It publishes quarterly serial numbers (January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December), in continuous publication in Spanish, English and Portuguese. It is registered in the National Registry of Serial Publications (RNPS) 2079 with ISSN (electronic): 1815-4867.

Propósito

La política de publicación de Maestro y Sociedad abarca a todos los profesionales de la educación (o vinculados a este sector) con necesidad de comunicar los resultados de sus producciones científicas así como acceder a la misma para gestionar información, nuevos conocimientos, colaborar, actualizarse o relacionarse siempre que cumplan las instrucciones del autor vigentes y sus artículos sean evaluados y aprobados por los árbitros designados previa discusión en la comisión de publicaciones del Consejo Científico y el Comité Editorial. Pretende motivar a los especialistas e investigadores de las Ciencias Pedagógicas y de la Educación a desarrollar y perfeccionar las investigaciones y dar solución a los problemas, así como aumentar los conocimientos en las ramas que los ocupan.

Purpose

The publication policy of Maestro y Sociedad covers all education professionals (or those linked to this sector) who need to communicate the results of their scientific productions as well as access it to manage information, new knowledge, collaborate, update or be related as long as they comply with the current author's instructions and their articles are evaluated and approved by the referees appointed after discussion in the publications commission of the Scientific Council and the Editorial Committee. Intends to motivate specialists and researchers in Pedagogical Sciences and Education to develop and improve research and solve problems, as well as increase knowledge in the branches that concern them.

Principios

  • Responsabilidad institucional
  1. Declaración. Cuando se publica información del sector de la educación (sus actividades, misiones, organizaciones, publicaciones) en Maestro y Sociedad para el acceso público, tiene que existir una clara responsabilidad por ese contenido.
  2. Razón. Maestro y Sociedad es una publicación seriada de la Universidad de Oriente responsabilizada con la visibilidad de la producción científica, por lo que cualquier información que se publique tiene que contar siempre con un respaldo institucional y profesional en correspondencia con esa misión.
  3. Implicaciones. Los documentos, imágenes o cualquier recurso que sea publicado en la revista y que represente a cualquier entidad debe acompañarse en la mejor medida posible, por una identificación de la organización responsable, de la persona o de los responsables de esa entidad y de la información publicada.
  • Respaldo, validez y mantenimiento de la información y los servicios
  1. Declaración. Es importante que la información que se haga pública en Maestro y Sociedad por los usuarios, esté adecuadamente respaldada, mantenida y validada por la organización responsable a la que represente el autor.
  2. Razón. Los autores deben asegurar la integridad y autenticidad de la información que se publica en Maestro y Sociedad, de manera que se represente adecuadamente la información de su organización y se cumplan las políticas y reglamentaciones vigentes.
  3. Implicaciones. Para garantizar este principio, se debe velar por el cumplimiento del objeto social y utilizar los espacios institucionales para evaluar y autorizar la publicación. 

Principles

  • Institutional responsibility
  1. Statement. When information from the education sector (its activities, missions, organisations, publications) is published on Maestro y Sociedad for public access, there must be a clear responsibility for that content.
  2. Reason. Maestro y Sociedad is a serial publication of the Universidad de Oriente responsible for the visibility of scientific production, so any information that is published must always have institutional and professional support in accordance with that mission.
  3. Implications. The documents, images or any resource that is published in the journal and that represents any entity must be accompanied, to the best extent possible, by an identification of the responsible organization, the person or those responsible for that entity and the information published.
  • Support, validity and maintenance of information and services
  1. Statement. It is important that the information made public in Maestro y Sociedad by users is properly supported, maintained and validated by the responsible organization that the author represents.
  2. Reason. The authors must ensure the integrity and authenticity of the information published in Maestro y Sociedad, in such a way that the information of their organization is adequately represented and the current policies and regulations are complied with.
  3. Implications. To guarantee this principle, compliance with the corporate purpose must be ensured and institutional spaces must be used to evaluate and authorize publication.

Evaluación por pares

Maestro y Sociedad realiza una revisión por pares abiertos adaptado a los objetivos de la Ciencia Abierta, que incluye la apertura de las identidades de revisor y autor, la publicación de informes de revisión, la interacción entre las partes y una mayor participación en el proceso de revisión por pares.

Fases del proceso de evaluación de un artículo:

Fase 1: envío del original. El autor tambien puede enviar los arbitrajes elaborados por profesionales de la ciencia reconocidos. No obstante, la revista se reserva el derecho de tomar en consideración dicha recomendación o no. 

Fase 2: valoración por parte del equipo editorial de la revista del envío recibido; se analiza con un software antiplagio y se decide si el trabajo pasa a ser revisado por expertos o si es descartado, ya sea por motivos formales o de contenido.

Fase 3: evaluación del original por parte de dos expertos en el ámbito temático que corresponda. En caso que el autor envíe el arbitraje realizado, se procese a su verificación por parte del comité editorial de la revista. La revista ofrece instrucciones y un formulario, que les permite a los revisores evaluar la calidad y pertinencia de los artículos. 

Fase 4: intercambio y consenso entre autores y/o revisores.

Fase 5: envío del resultado de la evaluación a los responsables de la revista.

 Peer review

Maestro y Sociedad conducts open peer review tailored to the goals of Open Science, which includes openness of reviewer and author identities, publication of review reports, interaction between parties, and increased participation in the review process. Peer Review.

Phases of the evaluation process of an article:

Phase 1: sending the original. The author can also send arbitrations prepared by recognized science professionals. However, the journal reserves the right to take this recommendation into consideration or not.

Phase 2: assessment by the journal's editorial team of the submission received; it is analyzed with anti-plagiarism software and it is decided whether the work will be reviewed by experts or whether it will be discarded, either for formal or content reasons.

Phase 3: evaluation of the original by two experts in the corresponding thematic field. In the event that the author sends the arbitration carried out, it will be processed for verification by the editorial committee of the journal. The journal offers instructions and a form, which allows reviewers to assess the quality and relevance of articles.

Phase 4: exchange and consensus between authors and/or reviewers.

Phase 5: sending the result of the evaluation to those responsible for the journal.

Phase 6: socialization of the number.

Proceso editorial

La revista utiliza para la gestión del proceso editorial el sistema informático Open Journal System, que automatiza este procedimiento:

  1. El autor envía el manuscrito a Revista Universidad y Sociedad. Para su envío siempre debe realizarlo través de la plataforma. Por tanto, se ha de registrar en la web https://maestroysociedad.uo.edu.cu/index.php/MyS/user/register
  2. Antes de enviar definitivamente el archivo, es necesario que los autores comprueben que han introducido en la plataforma los metadatos colocados adecuadamente. Los archivos subidos a la plataforma no deben superar los 3Mb de peso.
  3. El autor recibirá la confirmación de la recepción de su artículo en el plazo de 10 días desde su envío. En el período de un mes desde dicha recepción la revista Maestro y Sociedad tiene la obligación de dar una respuesta a sus autores en relación a:
  • Admisión del trabajo y envío a evaluación por los expertos.
  • Si hay rechazo por parte del Consejo Editorial antes del envío a evaluación del artículo, si se considera que presenta carencias formales o temáticas lo suficientemente importantes como para no continuar con el procedimiento.
  • Necesidad de realizar cambios formales imprescindibles antes de su paso a evaluación por los expertos.
  • La revista se compromete a seguir las recomendaciones realizadas por sus evaluadores.
  • En caso de que el autor sugiera un posible revisor para su artículo o envíe algún arbitraje realizado por un profesional de la ciencia, la revista se reserva el derecho de tomar en consideración dicha recomendación o no.

      4. En cuanto a las posiciones de los revisores se seguirán los criterios siguiente:

  • Si los dos evaluadores están de acuerdo en lo procedente de su publicación, así se le informará a sus autores, en un único documento.
  • Si ambos expertos emiten un juicio negativo, el artículo será rechazado.
  • Si hay discrepancia, se acudirá a un tercer evaluador/a para decidir su aprobación o el editor decidirá.
  • Si los evaluadores consideran necesario la realización de cambios, se solicitará a los autores una segunda versión. La decisión sobre esta versión será determinante para emitir un juicio final.

      5. El artículo pasará a corrección. Las galeradas serán enviadas al autor en .pdf. Una vez realizadas las modificaciones por los autores lo podrán enviar vía correo electrónico, dentro de un documento Word.

Cuando haya más de un/a autor/a se enviará el artículo corregido tan solo a la persona que indicó el grupo cuando envió la versión original y la comunicación será con esta, a no ser que se indique al Director y/o Editor lo contrario. El editor-corrector recibirá de vuelta un solo documento con todos los cambios solicitados. En ningún caso se podrá modificar el artículo de forma que cambie la versión final aprobada por los evaluadores.

Editorial process

The journal uses the Open Journal System for managing the editorial process, which automates this procedure:

1. The author sends the manuscript to Revista Universidad y Sociedad. For your shipment you must always do it through the platform. Therefore, you must register on the website https://maestroysociedad.uo.edu.cu/index.php/MyS/user/register

2. Before definitively sending the file, it is necessary for the authors to verify that they have entered the appropriately placed metadata on the platform. The files uploaded to the platform must not exceed 3Mb in weight.

3. The author will receive confirmation of receipt of his article within 10 days of its submission. In the period of one month from said reception, the Maestro y Sociedad magazine has the obligation to give an answer to its authors in relation to: Admission of the work and sending to evaluation by the experts. If there is a rejection by the Editorial Board before the article is sent for evaluation, if it is considered that it presents formal or thematic deficiencies that are important enough to not continue with the procedure. The need to make essential formal changes before it is passed on to evaluation by experts. The journal is committed to following the recommendations made by its evaluators. In the event that the author suggests a possible reviewer for his article or sends an arbitration carried out by a scientific professional, the journal reserves the right to take said recommendation into consideration or not.

4. Regarding the positions of the reviewers, the following criteria will be followed: If the two evaluators agree on the appropriateness of its publication, its authors will be informed in this way, in a single document. If both experts give a negative opinion, the article will be rejected. If there is a discrepancy, a third evaluator will be consulted to decide its approval or the editor will decide. If the evaluators consider it necessary to make changes, a second version will be requested from the authors. The decision on this version will be decisive to issue a final judgement.

5. The article will go to correction. The galley proofs will be sent to the author in .pdf. Once the modifications have been made by the authors, they can send it via email, within a Word document.

When there is more than one author, the corrected article will be sent only to the person who indicated the group when sending the original version and the communication will be with this person, unless the Director and/or Editor is indicated otherwise. The editor-corrector will receive back a single document with all the requested changes. In no case may the article be modified in such a way that it changes the final version approved by the evaluators.

Política de declaración de conformidad con los principios de Ciencia Abierta

La ciencia abierta se proyecta como el nuevo modus operandi de realización y comunicación de investigaciones con énfasis en la transparencia de los procesos y el intercambio de contenidos en acceso abierto a favor del rigor metodológico y la cooperación entre investigadores. El avance de la ciencia abierta depende de la acción proactiva de todos los actores e instancias de la investigación científica, entre las que destacan las revistas, sus editores y revisores. Desde 2018, SciELO promueve, junto con revistas y la comunidad científica, la adopción de prácticas de ciencia abierta en cuatro dimensiones de la comunicación científica, con el fin de asegurar que las revistas de calidad que indexa sigan el estado del arte en comunicación científica las cuales adopta Maestro y Sociedad:

  • Primera dimensión: armonización de la adopción del acceso abiertos, en lo que respecta a la adopción de la licencia CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. para todos los artículos y la retención por parte de los autores de los derechos de autor (copyright), a partir de enero de 2024.
  • Segunda dimensión: inclusión de la modalidad preprint y publicación continua en el flujo de comunicación científica.
  • Tercera dimensión: Intercambio de datos, códigos, métodos y otros materiales utilizados y resultantes de la investigación que normalmente subyacen a los textos de los artículos publicados en las revistas. Este contenido se identifica genéricamente como “datos de investigación”. Este compartir es responsabilidad de las(os) investigadores(as) involucrados(as) en la investigación y deben informar a la revista en el momento del envío del manuscrito. Todo manuscrito debe ir acompañado de una sección de declaración sobre la disponibilidad de los datos de la investigación, que será publicada en la versión final del artículo.
  • Cuarta dimensión: Proceso de revisión por pares de los manuscritos, que debe ser lo más informado posible. Los artículos deberán contener en la versión final el nombre de las(los) editoras(es) responsable(s) del proceso de evaluación.

Policy for declaration of conformity with Open Science principles

Open science is projected as the new modus operandi for conducting and communicating research with emphasis on the transparency of processes and the exchange of content in open access in favor of methodological rigor and cooperation between researchers. The advancement of open science depends on the proactive action of all the actors and instances of scientific research, among which the journals, their editors and reviewers stand out. Since 2018, SciELO has promoted, together with journals and the scientific community, the adoption of open science practices in four dimensions of scientific communication, in order to ensure that the quality journals it indexes follow the state of the art in scientific communication. which Master and Society adopts:

  • First dimension: harmonization of the adoption of open access, with regard to the adoption of the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license. for all articles and retention by authors of copyright, starting in January 2024.
  • Second dimension: inclusion of the preprint modality and continuous publication in the flow of scientific communication.
  • Third dimension: Exchange of data, codes, methods and other materials used and resulting from the research that normally underlie the texts of articles published in journals. This content is generically identified as “research data.” This sharing is the responsibility of the researchers involved in the research and they must inform the journal at the time of sending the manuscript. Every manuscript must be accompanied by a declaration section on the availability of the research data, which will be published in the final version of the article.
  • Fourth dimension: Manuscript peer review process, which should be as informed as possible. The articles must contain in the final version the name of the editor(s) responsible for the evaluation process.

La revista forma parte de la red Public Knowledge Project’s Private LOCKSS Network (PKP-PLN) para preservar digitalmente las revistas que usan OJS.

Esta revista utiliza el sistema LOCKSS para crear un sistema de almacenamiento distribuido entre las bibliotecas participantes y permite la creación de archivos permanentes en la revista con fines de conservación y restauración. Más...

Además, la revista presenta una política de autoarchivo interna que permite conservar y restaurar toda la información publicada. El respaldo se realiza en un repositorio institucional en el que se autoarchivan las versiones finales corregidas de los documentos en los formatos de despliegue PDF y HTML. De igual forma las bases editoriales de la revista son salvadas y archivadas en formato XML.

File

The journal is part of the Public Knowledge Project's Private LOCKSS Network (PKP-PLN) to digitally preserve magazines that use OJS.

This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed storage system among participating libraries and allows the creation of permanent archives in the journal for preservation and restoration purposes. More...

In addition, the journal has an internal self-archiving policy that allows all published information to be preserved and restored. The backup is carried out in an institutional repository in which the final corrected versions of the documents are self-archived in PDF and HTML display formats. Likewise, the editorial bases of the journal are saved and archived in XML format.

Frecuencia de publicación

Maestro y Sociedad publica al año un volumen dividido en cuatro números, de acuerdo con una periodicidad trimestral (enero-marzo, abril-junio, julio-septiembre, octubre-diciembre), en publicación continua, es decir, el artículo se publica al momento de ser aprobado en la revisión por pares, editados, corregidos y maquetados, teniendo en cuenta la fecha de publicación será el número que integre de la revista (Número 1. enero-marzo, Número 2. abril-junio, Número 3. julio-septiembre, Número 4. octubre-diciembre).

Frequency

Maestro y Sociedad publishes a volume each year divided into four issues, according to a quarterly periodicity (January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December), in continuous publication, that is, the article is published immediately. If approved in the peer review, edited, corrected and laid out, taking into account the publication date, it will be the number that makes up the magazine (Number 1. January-March, Number 2. April-June, Number 3. July- September, Number 4. October-December).

Declaración ética y mala praxis en la publicación

El equipo editorial de la revista Maestro y Sociedad está comprometida a garantizar la ética y calidad de los artículos publicados, a partir del código de conducta y buenas prácticas que el (COPE) define para editores de revistas científicas. La revista no acepta plagios de ninguna de sus formas, por tanto, cada autor responde con lo que publica y se les pide que utilisen los sitios antiplagios para que procedan a la verificación de sus niveles de similitud antes de enviar su artículo a la revista.

Ethical statement and malpractice in the publication

The editorial team of the Maestro y Sociedad journal is committed to guaranteeing the ethics and quality of the published articles, based on the code of conduct and good practices that the (COPE) defines for editors of scientific journals. The journal does not accept plagiarism in any of its forms, therefore, each author responds with what he publishes and they are asked to use anti-plagiarism sites to verify their levels of similarity before submitting their article to the journal. 

Conflicto de intereses

La confianza pública en el proceso de evaluación por pares y la credibilidad de los artículos publicados depende en parte de cómo se tratan los conflictos de intereses antes y durante el proceso editorial. Existe un conflicto de intereses cuando un autor (o la institución a la que pertenece), revisor o editor presentan relaciones personales o financieras que pueden interferir o influir sobre sus juicios en relación con la preparación, evaluación o publicación de un manuscrito. Si existe un conflicto de intereses en cualquiera de los actores: autores, árbitros o editores, debe informarse por escrito de inmediato al director de la revista. Los conflictos relativos a la protección de la propiedad intelectual a que se refiere el presente, serán sometidos al arbitrio de la autoridad cubana competente en virtud de la legislación vigente en la República de Cuba.

Conflict of interests

Public trust in the peer review process and the credibility of published articles depends in part on how conflicts of interest are addressed before and during the editorial process. A conflict of interest exists when an author (or the institution to which they belong), reviewer or editor have personal or financial relationships that may interfere with or influence their judgments in relation to the preparation, evaluation or publication of a manuscript. If there is a conflict of interest in any of the actors: authors, referees or editors, it must be reported in writing immediately to the director of the journal. Conflicts related to the protection of intellectual property referred to herein, will be submitted to the discretion of the competent Cuban authority under the current legislation in the Republic of Cuba.

Procedimiento de actuación ante conductas anómalas

Las quejas y reclamaciones que los diferentes interesados puedan plantear por actuaciones que fueran consideradas incorrectas y contrarias a los principios que inspiran esta Declaración de Ética y mala praxis, serán presentadas al director de Maestro y Sociedad o al editor de la publicación, a través del correo maestrosysociedad@uo.edu.cu en el momento en que tengan lugar. El interesado debe aportar cuanta información tenga a su disposición para poder facilitar la investigación y análisis de la actuación referida. Una vez recogida y analizada la información que resulte necesaria, se valorará las medidas a tomar, decidiendo en cada caso la forma adecuada en que se apercibirá a los autores de la mala práctica y las repercusiones de esta conducta en la relación futura con los mismo.

Action procedure in case of abnormal behavior

The complaints and claims that the different interested parties may raise due to actions that were considered incorrect and contrary to the principles that inspire this Declaration of Ethics and Malpractice, will be presented to the director of Maestro y Sociedad or to the editor of the publication, through the mail maestroysociedad@uo.edu.cu at the time they take place. The interested party must provide as much information as is available to them in order to facilitate the investigation and analysis of the aforementioned action. Once the necessary information has been collected and analyzed, the measures to be taken will be assessed, deciding in each case the appropriate way in which the perpetrators of the bad practice will be warned and the repercussions of this conduct on the future relationship with them.

En la revista Maestro y Sociedad el arbitraje, edición y publicación de las contribuciones son totalmente gratuitos para los autores. No existe uso comercial o lucrativo de ningún tipo, ni se acepta o aloja publicidad de ningún producto, persona o servicio que se mencione.

In the Maestro y Sociedad journal, arbitration, editing and publication of contributions are completely free for the authors. There is no commercial or lucrative use of any kind, nor is advertising accepted or hosted for any product, person or service mentioned.

Política de plagio

Los autores son responsables de las opiniones que expresen en sus trabajos y han de garantizar que los artículos son originales y que no han sido sometidos a la consideración de otras publicaciones. De igual modo asumen la responsabilidad de que en los autores firmantes solo aparezcan aquellas personas que hayan realizado una contribución intelectualmente importante para el desarrollo del trabajo.

La Office of Research Integrity (ORI) considera que el plagio incluye tanto el robo como la apropiación indebida de propiedad intelectual y la copia textual no atribuida sustancial del trabajo de otra persona”. “El robo o la apropiación indebida de la propiedad intelectual incluye el uso no autorizado de ideas o métodos únicos obtenidos mediante una comunicación privilegiada, como una subvención o una revisión manuscrita.”

Los artículos recibidos en Maestro y Sociedad son verificados por los editores antes y durante su proceso de publicación mediante la utilización del software libre Paper Rater, PlagScan y Plagiarisma. El mismo puede detectar el plagio en más de 190 idiomas, utiliza diferentes motores de búsqueda y soporta un gran número de extensiones de documentos.

Los revisores y miembros del Comité Editorial igualmente pueden detectar la ocurrencia de esta mala práctica. Ante sospecha de plagio durante su revisión y procesamiento (5-20 %), el autor será notificado y el artículo deberá ser modificado. Plagiarism policy

The authors are responsible for the opinions they express in their work and must guarantee that the articles are original and that they have not been submitted for consideration by other publications. In the same way, they assume the responsibility that only those people who have made an intellectually important contribution to the development of the work appear in the signing authors.

The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) considers plagiarism to include both the theft and misappropriation of intellectual property and substantial unattributed verbatim copying of another's work. “Intellectual property theft or misappropriation includes the unauthorized use of unique ideas or methods obtained through privileged communication, such as a grant or manuscript review.”

The articles received in Maestro y Sociedad are verified by the editors before and during their publication process by using the free software Paper Rater, PlagScan and Plagiarisma. It can detect plagiarism in more than 190 languages, uses different search engines and supports a large number of document extensions.

The reviewers and members of the Editorial Committee can also detect the occurrence of this bad practice. If plagiarism is suspected during review and processing (5-20%), the author will be notified and the article must be modified. If it is greater than 20%, the author(s) must send it again with the new modifications. We ask readers to inform the Editorial Committee of Maestro y Sociedad in case of detection of plagiarism, sending to our email (maestrosysociedad@uo.edu.cu) the title of the article, name(s) of the author(s), volume , number and year of publication.

Maestro y Sociedad does not encourage any form of plagiarism. Therefore, we recommend reviewing the content of your article before sending it, as well as the detailed care of the use of citations and bibliographical references.

Historia de la revista

La revista Maestro y Sociedad fundada en el 11 de junio de 2004 surgió en el antiguo Instituto de Ciencias Pedagógicas Frank País García, Santiago de Cuba, por un grupo de profesores y bibliotecarios de dicha institución. Su directora fundadora fue la profesora Dr. C. Adia Gell Labañino. Fue aprobada por el CITMA el 23 de octubre de 2014. En el proceso de integración desarrollado en las universidades cubanas, en 2016, la revista Maestro y Sociedad, pasó a formar parte de la Universidad de Oriente, Santiago de Cuba. Con el tiempo ha ido evolucionado y adaptándose a las exigencias de las bases de datos en las cuales se encuentra. Tiene una periodicidad trimestral, registrada y aprobada como publicación seriada nacional con el RPNS 2079 y el ISSN 1815-4867.

History

The Maestro y Sociedad journal, founded on June 11, 2004, emerged in the former Frank País García Institute of Pedagogical Sciences, Santiago de Cuba, by a group of professors and librarians from that institution. Its founding director was Professor Dr. C. Adia Gell Labañino. It was approved by CITMA on October 23, 2014. In the integration process developed in Cuban universities, in 2016, the Maestro y Sociedad magazine became part of the Universidad de Oriente, Santiago de Cuba. Over time it has evolved and adapted to the demands of the databases in which it is located. It has a quarterly periodicity, registered and approved as a national serial publication with RPNS 2079 and ISSN 1815-4867.
