Diagnosis of higher education problems in Zacatecas (2015-2025)

Abstract

Introduction: This study addresses the diagnosis of the higher education system in Zacatecas (2015-2025), identifying structural challenges in quality and coverage. Materials and Methods: A mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design was applied, analyzing SEP and INEGI databases along with surveys of key actors at the Autonomous University of Zacatecas. Results: A state coverage gap of 28.8% was found compared to the national average, along with a marked consensus on the insufficiency of public funding and the disconnect with the productive sector. Discussion: Findings are contrasted with the theory of cultural capital and the Triple Helix model, showing that education acts as a mechanism for reproducing inequalities. Conclusions: The study confirms the imperative need for a state Higher Education Law to reverse systemic lag and ensure administrative transparency.
