Abstract

The training of a competent professional who is capable of fulfilling the social mandate of meeting the health needs of the population is a challenge to be met by contemporary medical universities. Gastroenterology as a medical specialty is born from internal medicine; however, this is increasingly complex due to advances in endoscopic, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Taking into account the above, this work aims to: carry out the historical evolution of the professional training process of Gastroenterology, taking into account how it occurs in Latin America.
