The image of José Martí has been represented within the Cuban plastic arts for years. With the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959 the representation of the Apostle became a revolutionary icon with which the plastics could give their diverse readings from the figurative to the abstract. In Santiago de Cuba various plastics have been exponents in his works the fervor of Martí as Guarionex Antonio Ferrer Estiú (1947-2007). Guarionex graduated from the National School of Art (ENA) in sculpture mode. He was professor of Sculpture, History of Art and Basic Design of the Professional School of Plastic Arts José Joaquín Tejada and Assistant Professor of the Department of Art History of the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the Universidad de Oriente.
