This article is aimed at exposing the principal results obtained in the process of investigation in two polytechnic schools, to which a diagnosis was applied in order to evaluate the behavior of the process of formation and development of professional competences by using a set of methods of the empiric level, such as: observation, surveys, interviews and studies of documents; besides, the utilization methods of the theoretic level, such as: analysis- synthesis and inductive–deductive provided the obtaining of like principal results, consisting on the elaboration a pedagogic model for the formation and development of professional competences, that includes other contributions: the definition of professional competences, their functions, sequential levels as well as their classification. Finally a description of a methodology that enables the concretion of the proposed model in the agricultural polytechnic schools.
