Abstract

The Introduction: This research is based on studies on the use of artificial intelligence in learning, constructivism, and the sociocultural approach. It aimed to solve the problem of how artificial intelligence can be effectively used to personalize learning in digital environments for eighth-grade elementary school students. The objective was to determine strategies for using artificial intelligence in the teaching and learning of mathematics for these eighth-grade elementary school students at the "Canal de Jambelí" Educational Unit, thus promoting personalized learning in digital environments. Materials and methods: A mixed-method approach was used, combining qualitative and quantitative elements. The theoretical methods used were analysis and synthesis, and inductive-deductive methods. The empirical methods used were document review, observation, surveys, and interviews. The statistical tools used were descriptive statistics. The sample included 65 teachers and 1,906 students from the "Canal de Jambelí" Educational Unit in Guayaquil. The sample was intentionally composed of 47 individuals: two teachers and 45 students. Results: It was revealed that many students face significant difficulties in mathematics, reflected in low grades. Discussion: Artificial Intelligence is identified as a potential tool for personalizing teaching and improving learning by offering tailored content and individualized feedback. However, significant limitations were highlighted, such as the lack of technological infrastructure. Conclusions: Artificial Intelligence presents clear benefits for education by improving motivation and adapting to diverse learning styles. It is proposed to develop educational policies that promote the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence and provide appropriate support to teachers and students to maximize its benefits for mathematics learning in digital environments for basic education.
