Abstract

Introduction: This article examines the integration of a gender perspective into the academic training of the Marine Biology course at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Namibe University, with a focus on sustainable seafood production. The main objective of this research is to analyze how incorporating a gender perspective into academic training can contribute to increasing gender equity in the marine sector, promoting greater inclusion and participation of women and other underrepresented groups. Materials and methods: Seafood production is essential for food security and economic development, especially in coastal regions such as Namibe, where the exploitation of marine resources is a fundamental activity. However, female participation in this sector remains limited due to social, cultural, and structural barriers. Results: This research highlights the challenges faced by women and other marginalized groups, as well as the opportunities that a gender perspective could offer both in academia and in the productive sector. Discussion: Based on the analysis of teaching practices and institutional policies, the study suggests strategies to promote greater gender equity, such as encouraging women's active participation in internships, research, and training programs. Conclusions: The expected outcomes include strengthening the presence of women in Marine Biology, promoting more inclusive management practices, and creating conditions for women's empowerment in the field of sustainable seafood production.
