Abstract

Spelling problems have been the object of attention of innumerable Cuban pedagogues, who have contributed various methodologies based on traditional pedagogical approaches to language teaching. However, in light of the most recent advances in linguistic science, it is considered pertinent, for a more effective treatment of dysortography, to evaluate the relationship between orthographic availability and the cognitive faculties of individuals, especially regarding categorization-memory and perception. A study of this type would allow a more objective treatment of spelling errors in pre-university students of general, sports and artistic education with a view to raising their lexical competence, which could be applied to other levels of education, after a diagnostic study with cognitive focus.
