The Central Library of the Universidad de Oriente holds a considerable amount of old documents. It faces two problems: conservation and access. There is a progressive deterioration in the documents, both by the natural disintegration of the supports and by the consultation process when suffering damage by manipulation, plus limited access. Many of these documents have the status of unique. Given this situation, it is formulated to address this problem and need, resorting to the tools offered by Information and Communications Technologies, seeking to store, preserve and provide users with access to these documents of great historical value. Digitizing these historical documents will be of great help to the users (students, professors and researchers), who will be able to have access to all the information.
