Relationship between sexual violence and preventive actions among children and adolescents

Abstract

Introduction: Child sexual violence persists in Ayacucho, affecting the well-being of vulnerable populations and requiring sustained preventive actions to reduce its occurrence. Objective: To analyze the relationship between sexual violence and preventive actions targeting children and adolescents during the study period. Materials and Methods: This was a basic research study with a quantitative approach, non-experimental longitudinal design, and correlational scope. Non-probability census sampling was conducted using records from the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations. Documentary analysis was performed using a data collection form validated through expert judgment, and statistical analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25. Results: Between 2015 and 2024, 39,952 cases of sexual violence were recorded, with female victims accounting for 88.7%. The 12–17-year age group had the highest number of cases (5,743), compared with the 6–11-year group (3,695). In addition, 30,532 preventive actions were reported, showing a sustained annual increase. Inferential analysis identified a Spearman rank correlation coefficient of 0.818 (p = 0.014), indicating a statistically significant relationship between the two variables. Discussion: The positive correlation indicated that the increase in preventive actions coincided with a higher number of recorded cases, possibly reflecting more effective detection, identification, and reporting. Conclusions: A strong relationship was found between sexual violence and preventive actions, reinforcing the need for targeted and sustained prevention strategies.
