Transformational Leadership and Its Relationship with Curriculum Implementation in an Educational Institution

Introduction: The quality of educational management depends largely on the capacity of school leadership to guide pedagogical processes and strengthen curriculum implementation in educational institutions. Transformational leadership, according to Bass and Avolio (1994), is characterized by the leader's ability to inspire, motivate, and guide their team toward achieving shared institutional goals, fostering commitment and teacher autonomy. Curriculum implementation, in turn, involves the practical application of curricular guidelines in the classroom. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between transformational leadership and curriculum implementation in a school. Materials and methods: The research was conducted using a mixed-methods approach, with a descriptive-correlational scope and a propositional component. The quantitative component involved administering a questionnaire to 26 teachers, and the data were processed using descriptive and inferential statistics, specifically Pearson's correlation coefficient. In the qualitative component, semi-structured interviews were conducted with three administrators, whose information was analyzed using thematic categorization. Results: The quantitative results showed a high and statistically significant positive relationship between transformational leadership and curriculum implementation (r = .845, p < .001). Within transformational leadership, the most prominent dimensions were inspirational motivation (M = 10.31) and individualized consideration (M = 10.04); in curriculum implementation, institutional monitoring stood out (M = 13.85), while curriculum planning showed the lowest values (M = 6.88). At the qualitative level, the administrators highlighted teacher motivation, curriculum commitment, and shared organizational culture as strengths of institutional leadership, although areas for improvement were also identified, such as intellectual stimulation, pedagogical innovation, and personalized support. Discussion: The findings confirm the existence of a strong and statistically significant positive relationship between transformational leadership and curriculum implementation, aligning with the postulates of Bass and Avolio (1994) and with previous studies indicating that transformational leadership promotes a reflective and collaborative institutional culture. Inspirational motivation and individualized consideration registered the highest averages, while idealized influence obtained the lowest average, revealing the need to strengthen ethical modeling and the generation of institutional trust. Conclusions: It is concluded that transformational leadership is positively and significantly associated with curriculum implementation, constituting a relevant factor for pedagogical organization, institutional cohesion, and the continuous improvement of educational practice in the studied context. A strategic implementation guide structured around four axes, validated using the TOPSIS method, is proposed, prioritizing the axes of inspirational motivation and individualized consideration for immediate implementation.
