Human rights, family integration and civic engagement: the ethical challenge of legal education in Ecuador

Introduction: This research analyzes the incorporation of human rights, family integration, and civic engagement into legal education in Ecuador, given the need to move beyond a traditional dogmatic and procedural approach that relegates the ethical and social dimensions. Materials and methods: A quantitative, documentary-bibliographic approach was used, employing a descriptive and documentary design based on peer-reviewed primary sources. Inductive-deductive and analytical-synthetic methods were applied to describe and understand the object of study. Results: The findings demonstrate that, despite the constitutional recognition of human rights and the protection of the family as the core of society, challenges persist, such as prison violence, increased insecurity, and the need to train professionals with an ethical and socially committed vision. The importance of integrating these principles across the curriculum is highlighted, fostering critical thinking, interdisciplinarity, and community service. Discussion: This article highlights the discrepancy between the legal framework and reality, pointing to the need for pedagogical reforms that link theory with practice and strengthen professional ethics. Conclusions: Legal education in Ecuador must assume a transformative role, training professionals capable of acting as agents of social change, with a strong commitment to human rights, family stability, and active civic participation.
