Introduction: Burnout syndrome is a major occupational health problem among nursing professionals, particularly in settings characterized by high workload and limited resources. In the municipality of Cuito, Bié Province, Angola, nurses are exposed to demanding working conditions that may contribute to chronic work-related stress and burnout, affecting professional well-being and quality of care. Objective: To determine the prevalence of burnout syndrome among nursing professionals in the municipality of Cuito, Bié, Angola, and to analyze the main work-related factors associated with its development. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 97 nursing professionals. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory – Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) were used to assess emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation tests, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The findings revealed a high prevalence of burnout, with emotional exhaustion being the most affected dimension, predominantly at moderate and high levels. Depersonalization was mainly observed at moderate levels, while a considerable proportion of participants showed reduced personal accomplishment. The work-related factors most strongly associated with burnout were rotating shifts, workload, and insufficient material resources. Conclusions: Burnout syndrome shows a significant prevalence among nursing professionals in the municipality of Cuito, mainly affecting emotional exhaustion. Institutional strategies aimed at improving working conditions, reducing workload, and promoting psychological well-being are essential.
