Methodological proposal for addressing food security throungh pedagogical mediation

Abstract

Introduction: This paper raises the need to incorporate the study of food security as a cultural phenomenon through pedagogical mediation. The proposal stems from the pedagogogical experience developed at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oriente. Materials and methods: This descriptive research employed a mixed-methods approach, integrating quantitative and qualitative methods in the analysis of results and the validation of the proposed approach. Qualitative techniques included surveys, participant observation, document analysis, and focus groups. The study was conducted during the 2024-2025 academic year with an international sample of 10 faculty members. Results: A methodological instrument for addressing food security is proposed. This instrument consists of logically arranged and interconnected steps, drawing on the diverse professional profiles present in the faculty, thus demonstrating the viability of the proposed methodology. Discussion. Pedagogical mediation, based on dialogue, reflection, and collaborative word, is highlighted as a key tool. Conclusions. The proposal is deemed relevant and viable for making food security content understandable from an educational, inclusive, and transformative perspective.
