The use of artificial intelligence in cinematic makeup: techniques of rejuvenation and aging

Introduction: Cinematic makeup has evolved with digital technologies, particularly in rejuvenation and aging effects. Objectives: To compare analog and digital makeup in terms of realism, time, cost, and public perception. Methods: Both techniques were applied to one person: analog using cosmetics, latex, and dyes; digital using FaceApp, EBSynth, and After Effects. A survey was conducted with twenty participants (ten with Audiovisual Communication training, ten without) who evaluated realism, estimated age, facial details, and practical utility. Results and Discussion: The analog technique was perceived as more realistic for aging but more expensive; the digital technique proved more efficient and cost-effective for rejuvenation, though less natural in appearance. Conclusions: Both methods are complementary. The choice depends on budget, time, and desired level of realism, integrating artisanal and technological approaches—including artificial intelligence—into contemporary film production.
