Abstract

Introduction: The training of broad-profile professionals is a continuous challenge for Cuban Higher Education. The E study plans called for the essentiality of content, implicitly carry the need to work methodologically on this aspect, taking into account the articulations that must be implemented between their different organizational systems. The objective of the work is to analyse the essentiality of content for the Genetics subject of the Bachelor's degree in Biology, from its main invariants and its methodological treatment. Materials and methods: The D and E study plans of the Bachelor's degree in Biology and the programs of the discipline Genetics and Evolution and the subject of Genetics were reviewed. In addition, a review of the topic of content essentiality was carried out and several elements were taken into account for the methodological treatment of the invariants or nodes identified in the subject. Results: The cognitive nodes of the subject (inheritance and variation) were identified, the most appropriate typologies of classes were selected and guiding methodological guides were designed for the methodological proposals for treatment of the topic. Discussion: The methodological teaching work allowed us to analyze the essentiality of the contents in the subject supported by its main nodes, which contribute to the training of the graduate in Biology. Conclusions: The feedback between the search for the essentiality of content and the methodological treatment will allow the continuous improvement of the curriculum and thus the formation of a more competent and better trained professional.
