Abstract

Introduction: The global energy crisis and the environmental challenges associated with energy consumption have motivated various institutions to adopt sustainable practices. The increase in energy demand, driven by population growth and industrial development, has generated significant pressure on natural resources and contributed to environmental degradation. Materials and methods: The present study adopts a descriptive-exploratory method with the aim of analyzing and understanding current energy consumption practices and environmental awareness within the educational community of the Nelson Ortiz Stefanuto Educational Unit in Esmeraldas. Results: The analysis of the surveys has allowed us to identify that, although there is a general awareness of the importance of sustainable energy use, there is variability in the implementation of these practices. The areas of greatest environmental impact, such as lighting and the use of electronic equipment, present significant opportunities for improvement through strategies aimed at optimizing the use of resources and promoting energy efficiency. Discussion: The manual of good practices developed from the results of the surveys provides clear guidelines and concrete activities adapted to each group of the educational community. This manual not only seeks to raise awareness about the importance of energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources, but also offers practical tools for the implementation of these practices, thus contributing to the reduction of negative environmental impact. Conclusions: The promotion of the manual has been designed to actively involve students, teachers and administrative staff in a joint effort for sustainability. The proposed activities, such as energy monitoring brigades, energy saving contests, and energy audits, are intended to increase participation and provide the necessary knowledge to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.
