Abstract

Introduction: Social crime is one of the many problems that affect communities, the "Valle del Cerro Azul" community in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador is no exception, this problem affects various aspects of daily life such as economic development and social well-being. This study investigates the relationship between social crime and the management of community development projects in the community during the year 2023, analyzing the discourses from the perceptions of neighborhood leaders and social managers who live and work in this community. Objective: The aim is to determine how social crime influences the planning, execution, and results of development projects, considering their different stages. Materials and methods: A qualitative approach is used, employing focus groups and interviews to collect information on the experiences and emotions of individuals affected by crime. Results: The research subjects expressed the difficulties and challenges in implementing development projects in the community. Discussion: The findings of this research contribute to a better understanding of how crime impacts the effectiveness of community projects, offering valuable inputs for the formulation of development policies and strategies in vulnerable contexts. Conclusions: It was shown that crime affected the implementation of social development projects and influenced the non-continuity of projects in the community.
