Introduction: Youth unemployment is a social phenomenon that is perceived as a problem at the national level, this is due to the economic, political and social conditions that each State experiences. There is a difference between job opportunities in urban areas and rural areas, in the latter it is even conditioned by the low generation of investments that allow for the promotion of jobs. Objective: determine the implications of youth unemployment in the San Vicente Commune of the Santa Elena canton. Materials and methods: the research carried out was carried out under the positivist paradigm with a quantitative approach, with a deductive method, designing a survey with the most relevant criteria to explain the situation of young people in the commune of San Vicente in terms of unemployment. Results: the lack of management of local authorities was one of the reasons mostly identified by young people who maintain that labor demand requires education and development of skills and that in many cases they are met, however, there are no places to put them into practice. Discussion: there are various factors that prevent the full development and integration of this group in the labor area, which is why the lack of mechanisms and local strategic planning are essential to activate the economy within the locality. Conclusion: the coordination between local authorities and business representatives is essential to try to reduce this perception and promote favorable conditions for investment in rural areas.
