Dental caries in early childhood associated with cariogenic foods: a literature review

Abstract

The ingestion of foods containing sucrose has a high influence on the appearance of caries in early childhood. However, the appearance of dental caries has its antecedents in inadequate hygiene and eating habits, in a total lack of control of intake, and the inclusion of cariogenic foods in the daily diet. The objective is to establish the influence of the intake of foods containing sucrose on caries in early childhood. The research is exploratory, documentary and qualitative approach. The PRISMA methodology was used for the identification, review, selection and inclusion of scientific articles. Was identified 612 articles in the period from 2017 to 2021. The results show that the high consumption of sucrose has a high influence on dental caries in early childhood. Likewise, this becomes more evident at infant ages were brushing habits, brushing methods and responsibility are not adequate, both for the maintenance of proper oral hygiene and in the elimination of the consumption of foods with a high intake of sucrose and cariogenic foods.
