Introducción: Gender-based violence is a social phenomenon that significantly impacts the economic well-being of women around the world, especially in rural contexts such as the Lago Agrio canton, Nueva Loja parish, Ecuador. Objective: To analyze the impact of gender-based violence on the economic well-being of rural women in Nueva Loja. Materials and methods: Defined as exploratory qualitative research with an interpretive paradigm and a sustainable human development dimension, techniques such as semi-structured interviews and focus groups were used to collect information from a non-probabilistic sample of 18 women. Results and Discussion: It was found that gender violence negatively impacts women's economic well-being, manifesting itself through physical, psychological, and economic abuse. This phenomenon creates cycles of dependency and vulnerability, as it limits access to support services, minimizes job opportunities, and normalizes acts of violence. This research process has determined that gender violence is a phenomenon rooted in the sociocultural context. Conclusion: This study concludes that gender-based violence is an ethical and social problem, but that as it becomes entrenched in society, it can have economic consequences that affect the development of women living in rural areas. Therefore, in light of this problem, it is important to promote economic empowerment and access to resources in order to improve autonomy and counteract gender-based violence.
