Past and present of sociology in Esmeraldas

Abstract

Introduction: Sociology is a science that can have a single approach to the interpretation of the social, cultural, economic and political reality of society, region or province through the application of the universal method and general scientific research methods, which allows to reach objective and truthful conclusions about the various events that are analyzed. Materials and methods: A bibliographic review was carried out to update the historical and sociological knowledge about Esmeraldas. Results: The results were the experiences of thinkers from other countries and their theoretical-practical contributions to Latin American Sociology without ignoring the contributions of sociologists and thinkers from Europe and North America so that Esmeraldas sociological science is enriched with these contributions and is a methodological tool that is required for the integral development of the province of Esmeraldas. Discussion: The sociological reality of a people or nation such as the case of the Province of Esmeraldas with a complex history of slavery, marginalization, racism and exploitation of both human beings and Nature has made the desire for freedom a primary factor in the collective behavior of its inhabitants, but with the aggravating factor that in this process it has easily gone from freedom to debauchery, from natural order to chaos, from discipline to indiscipline. Conclusions: This is the starting point of a deep analysis of the sociological work in the Province of Esmeraldas to venture into specific research that elucidates the various aspects of the reality of a people characterized by its ethnic and cultural diversity.
