Abstract

Introduction: Follow-up tutoring is an academic service provided by the university to students pursuing an online degree. The tutor is a professional who plans, develops and evaluates the orientation, support and monitoring activities of students, helping them adapt to university life and improve their academic performance. Materials and methods: The purpose of this research was to analyze online follow-up tutorials as an academic support tool in higher education; In the development of the process, a descriptive research design was used, with a quantitative approach, supported by inductive-deductive and analytical-synthetic methods. Results: The results demonstrated that the online follow-up tutor facilitates inclusion and equal opportunities for students in vulnerable situations, such as people with disabilities, those suffering from catastrophic illnesses, those deprived of liberty and those who are in state of pregnancy, in coherence with what is typified by the Academic Regime Regulations of the University Educational System, contributing to improving the quality of education, promoting the responsibility and autonomy of students in the academic process. Discussion: The follow-up tutoring contributes to reducing dropout and school failure, by generating a bond between the tutor and the student. Conclusions: It is concluded that online academic monitoring tutoring is a tool to promote equity, develop capabilities and generate competencies that favor the personal and academic growth of students.
