Digital skills in post-pandemic environments: case of university students

Introduction: The 21st century brought with it digital transformation and the COVID-19 pandemic revealed all the adversities and challenges that human beings face in their daily lives regarding the use of technology. Currently, students face significant challenges in developing digital skills due to limited infrastructure, lack of devices, training, digital knowledge gap, educational inequality, among others. In light of this, this study describes digital skills in post-pandemic environments. Materials and methods: Under basic research, non-experimental design with cross section, scope of descriptive study. A population of 110 students was considered. To collect data, the survey and questionnaire with Likert scaling were administered. Results: The results showed a score above average in the use of digital tools for academic purposes, the skills to create and share content and solve problems related to the use of technological resources. However, internet access and geographic location are some limitations to constantly enhancing these skills. Discussion: The knowledge society requires competent professionals capable of creating an active and constructivist role in students. The success of strengthening digital skills is generally due to teachers; if they do not have enough information about digital culture, it will probably not be perceived. Conclusions: Students almost always demonstrate their abilities in the use of digital tools to organize materials, communicate or send messages in a timely manner, prepare presentations, formulate and participate in evaluations, as well as to carry out a synchronous meeting between classmates and teacher and; These contribute to the learner's learning. Likewise, they regularly demonstrate their abilities by creating academic content, therefore, they achieve good learning.
