Abstract

Introduction: Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) or Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common cancer in humans and its incidence is
increasing. Although it only rarely causes metastasis, it does have the capacity to produce high morbidity if not diagnosed and
treated optimally. Objective: Describe the histopathological, clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of patients with
basal cell skin cancer. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in patients with biopsies
of basal cell skin cancer. The universe consisted of 300 biopsies and the sample was made up of 86 that met the inclusion
criteria. Data collection was carried out with microscopic observation of the biopsies and the patient's clinical record with
their general data, physical examination, clinical diagnosis and the histopathological result given by the Department of
Pathological Anatomy. Results: A clear predominance of basal cell cancer was observed in male patients (25.5%), older
adults (44.2%), white skin color (77.9%), construction workers (56% ) due to prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays.
Solid basal cell cancer was the most common histological type (86%). Discussion: Larrondo and Hernández, (2016) state
that skin tumor lesions are more frequent towards the fifth and sixth decades of life and their incidence is higher in men
than in women, increasing progressively with age. Conclusions: The most frequent anatomical location was at the level of the face and in most of the biopsies the clinical diagnosis of basal cell cancer was the solid subtype, which corresponded to
the highest percentage of histological diagnosis.
