Abstract

Introduction: The most universal of Cubans, the Apostle, José Martí, has been in the artistic imagination of poets, painters
and in all known manifestations of art. In order to offer information about the presence of José Martí in the religious art
salons organized by the San Antonio María Claret Missionary Cultural and Animation Center, a review was carried out of
the extensive catalog of works sent to these salons. Materials and methods: An exhaustive review of the photographic
collection of the participating works was carried out in the twenty-one religious art rooms of the San Antonio María Claret
Cultural Center, the Thesaurus catalog San Antonio María Claret Gallery, a heritage of religious art and the works of the
thesaurus stored in the institution. Results: José Martí has been present in the artistic imagination of the participants in
the religious art salons organized by the San Antonio María Claret Missionary Cultural and Animation Center in 7 of its
21 editions, in two of them with more than one work, in addition to a personal expo. Discussion: The treatment of José
Martí in Cuban art has been studied on various occasions, since there have been numerous representations made by the
artists in their works. Conclusions: José Martí appears in paintings, digital photographs, metal and wood works, alone
and associated with other heroes and martyrs of the Cuban independence struggles. The works have won collateral
awards, mentions and one of them even won a third prize: I carry you on my skin by Ricardo Godual Bermúdez Moya,
from the Granma province, in the 20th edition of the religious art salons.
