Methodology for measure of diameter of stem and calculation of area and volume of trees
Abstract
To determine the precision and the error, in the measurement of the diameter of the stem and in the calculation of the basal area and volume, between four instruments; 138 trees with a stem diameter equal to or greater than 30 cm were selected at random; in a primary forest intervened in Ucayali, Peruvian Amazon. The tape measure, diameter tape, aluminum caliper and wooden caliper were compared. Accuracy was very close between the four instruments. The errors of the methods were very low; they did not exceed 1.4 cm as an absolute error, nor 3.1% as a relative error. The smallest error was with the tape measure and the tape measure.
