Covid-19 and its impact on the school dropout of the indigenous student population of Ecuador
Abstract
Indigenous populations are highly vulnerable communities. In the last two years, the Covid-19 pandemic has dealt a severe blow to society, where indigenous peoples have been seriously affected. The objective of the research is to analyze the factors that influenced school dropouts in times of the Covid-19 pandemic. The study is documentary in nature, with an exploratory scope, a qualitative approach and a non-experimental design. As a result, it can be affirmed that the school dropout levels of the indigenous population in times of Covid-19 are high. The main factors evidenced that influenced these results are: the absence of state policies to serve this population, the lack of economic resources to access technology, poor Internet access, the high level of illiteracy of parents to attend their children, the need to work to obtain income and the little pedagogical and didactic preparation of teachers to face virtual education.
