Toponomastic in Cuba. A semantic-pragmatic description in names of nursery schools

Abstract

The development of studies on toponomastics in Cuba allows attention to new directions, some of which will be proposed in the series inaugurated in this article. The names of the institutions also identify the language variants; of them, the names of the nursery schools are selected as objects. The objective is to identify relevant lexical-semantic and semantic-pragmatic procedures for their description. Applying theoretical, empirical and specialized methods, and techniques of linguistic analysis, the importance of the denomination in the communicative act is valued. The identifying mission (of place and its users) and formation (of culture, ideology) of these names is highlighted, considering the main motivations that gave rise to them.
