Abstract

Introduction: Information systems exist in all areas of our daily lives. Public institutions, especially in the health sector, need to use information systems to improve administration at all levels. Objective: To determine the extent to which the implementation of an information system improves clinical management in the health facilities of the Barranca Cajatambo Network. Materials and Methods: The research design employed was pre-experimental, using a pre-test and post-test, with observation sheets as the data collection instrument. The Student's t-test was used to test the research hypotheses. Results: Regarding clinical management before and after the implementation of the information system in the health centers, the mean time for the pre-test was 165.5667 minutes, while in the post-test it was 125.1667 minutes. For locating medical records, the mean time for the pre-test was 4.5333 minutes, and in the post-test it was 3.6667 minutes. To create the weekly medical schedule, the mean time for the sample in the pre-test was 26.1667 minutes, compared to 15.4667 minutes in the post-test. Similarly, the mean patient care time in the pre-test was 134.8667 minutes, while in the post-test it was 106.1667 minutes, indicating a significant difference in time before and after the implementation of the information system in the health centers. Conclusions: The implemented information system significantly reduced the time required to locate patient medical records; it also significantly reduced the time needed to create the weekly medical schedule and, finally, significantly reduced the duration of patient care at the health centers in the Barranca Cajatambo network.
