Abstract

Introduction: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education—specifically as adaptive learning—offers an alternative that makes the teaching-learning process more engaging, motivating, and developmental. In nursing education, it has been shown to foster an innovative, dynamic, humanized, and personalized approach through the use of technological tools that contribute to finding solutions for improving human health. Materials and Methods: This exploratory study was conducted at the Catholic University of Guayaquil. It addresses the question: "What are the perceptions of faculty and students regarding the use of artificial intelligence and its impact on their professional training?" To answer this, a mixed-methods study was carried out—predominantly qualitative in nature—utilizing both theoretical and empirical methods and techniques. A non-probabilistic, purposive sample was selected, consisting of 25 students and 6 faculty members. Results: The findings demonstrate the positive effects of using artificial intelligence for adaptive learning, revealing that the integration of AI into nursing education is both useful and innovative. Discussion: Incorporating AI into nursing coursework offers a wide range of opportunities for developing practical skills. Furthermore, the instructor’s proficiency in using advanced technologies serves as a guide, helping students to better navigate, evaluate, and create as they prepare for clinical practice. Conclusions: Clinical practice within the nursing curriculum will be essential to the advancement of AI integration; however, such practice must reflect current demands and developments in the healthcare field. Consequently, the implementation of new techniques should align with contemporary requirements.
