Abstract

Introduction: This article analyzes the aesthetic and narrative strategies through which María Fernanda Ampuero denounces the violence inflicted upon feminized bodies in her short story collection Pelea de gallos (Páginas de Espuma, 2018). Materials and Methods: Employing a qualitative, critical, and interpretive approach, the study offers a hermeneutic and textual reading of the work. The analysis integrates Ricardo Piglia’s theory of the "double story" and the Freudian concept of the uncanny with Johan Galtung’s frameworks regarding direct, structural, and cultural violence, as well as Sayak Valencia’s theory of "gore capitalism" and Julia Kristeva’s concept of "abjection." It examines polyphony, ellipses, and representations of horror as devices that reveal what the domestic sphere conceals and naturalizes. Results: The findings demonstrate that the family—far from being a protective environment, as posited by the heteronormative imaginary—functions instead as a setting for abuse and a space for the intergenerational transmission of patriarchal pedagogies. Discussion: Furthermore, the gore-inflected and abject imagery does not function as gratuitous excess; rather, it serves as a critical strategy that exposes the exploitation, degradation, and vulnerability of feminized bodies, while also highlighting limited forms of resistance. Conclusions: In Ampuero’s narrative, aesthetics and ethics are inseparable: her writing transforms silence and horror into an act of denunciation, challenging the cultural structures that legitimize violence.
