Francisco Ibarra Martínez: a teacher of Marti’s ideas
Abstract
This article shows the relation between José Marti’s ideas, in an ethic- educational dimension, and the work of the teacher from Santiago de Cuba, Francisco Ibarra Martínez. The identity between José Marti’s conception of the teaching of History and its application in Ibarra’s work is highlighted, as well as the formative basis that support his pedagogical ideas of social character; his concern about the role of Education to transform the society, overcoming the so called crisis of the republican model; civic, honest and patriotic men and women. To assimilate, to apply and to innovate were constant ideas in his educational praxis supported by Marti’s ideas, which dignify him as one of the founders of the Cuban contemporary pedagogy.
